Our habitat is an island, with very limited resources, and with intensive use. It is the oldest island in the Canaries, which shows the greatest sign of erosion.
Of all the Canary islands, thisis the most exposed, the one that has no blanket of green to protect it from the cold, from the heat, the whirling winds or when the waves hit its shores.
But it is the island that has more spirit to give to those who inhabit and visit it.
The island that has nothing, yet offers everything to whom ever decides to embrace its beauty. Playa Park Zensation must think and live with the long term sustainability of tourism in mind, and help to instil this way of life in our clients and staff.
In an effort, to actively promote tourism awareness, Playa Park Zensation is creating a line of sustainability programmes and initiatives.
We are generating an active and conscious action of recycling, providing rooms and facilities with selective waste collection and special waste sorting bins in the rooms.
We also provide waste sorting containers for organic waste, glass, paper and plastic in the corridors, pool areas and the main waste container area of the hotel.
Thanks to this, we treat our waste by separating each material that can be recycled into containers, from the source in the rooms and facilities to the collection point.
For the removal from the hotel to the recycling plants we have agreements with recycling and waste treatment companies such as Martinez Cano.
Part of the hotel is equipped with energy-saving air conditioning, which uses electrical converters that help limit on/off cycles. We use aero thermal systems to reuse the heat generated in the rooms and redirect it to the heating of the swimming pools, helping to reduce our energy consumption by 50%.
This results in the reduction of harmful CO2 emissions, thus reducing our carbon footprint.
Besides our air conditioning, all the water heating systems in our hotel are solar powered, which saves even more energy. We use flat solar panels with high performance which provide us with 90% of the energy needed for the sanitary hot water, as well as the rest for heating the swimming pools.
For the chlorination of our swimming pools we use salt chlorinators which are more ecological.
This electrolysis system converts the saline components in the water into more efficient, clean and less harmful chlorine for people and the environment.
We are now starting to eliminate single-use items and we are focusing our purchase management on more durable items with higher cycles of use.
We have invested more than 200,000 euros to digitise all the hotel's operational processes and turn it into a Smart Hotel enabling us to be a paperless building. We have a philosophy of respect for Fuerteventura and for this reason, we maintain agreements with associations,organisations, and companies dedicated to the protection of nature and aim toincrease our collaboration with them into the future. Among these companies are Limpia Ventura, Avanfuer, Clean Ocean Project. We make every effort to select and work with suppliers who have the same environmental awareness as us to protect and promote this thought and to join hands in this complicated task. In this sense we are adopting the measures that govern in the ISO 14.001 and the Travel Life protocols. Our consultants in this area are the companies PREVERISK and ENANDY, with Buro Verita.
In support of the local community, we encourage the hiring of local people, who currently represent the highest percentage of our employees.
Likewise, the purchase of local produce from the island is encouraged.
Playa Park Zensation wishes to add its continued support to the designation of Fuerteventura as a RESERVA DE LA BIOSFERA (Biosphere Reserve) into the coming years.
